Depuis sa création, en 1966, ses activités se sont développées à l'échelon français, européen et mondial. La S.C.T. a pris l'initiative en 1969 de susciter la création d'un Comité européen de "Medicinal Chemistry" transformé ensuite en "European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry" dont la SCT est membre adhérent. En 1970, la S.C.T. a décidé la création d'un Groupe d'Etudes de Structure-Activité "GESA" pour favoriser les rencontres et discussions entre jeunes chercheurs. Ce groupe, devenu autonome, poursuit régulièrement ses rencontres annuelles. La Société de Chimie Thérapeutique a favorisé et patronné en 1976 la formation d'un groupe européen : QSAR, "Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships".Ce groupe a organisé plusieurs années consécutives une école d'été, dont les premières se sont tenues en France à la Faculté de Pharmacie de Clermont-Ferrand (13-25 septembre 1976), et à la Faculté de Pharmacie de Grenoble (Septembre 1977).»
