Indeed, it was due to a bequest by a former provost, Prof. Andrews, that the national observatory was built at Dunsink in 1783. Originaly the College observatory, Dunsink was later incorporated in to the Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies (DIAS), a research institute set up by de Valera. Considering this link, it is surprising that there was previously no astronomy society in the College.

Set up in April 1995, Trinity Astronomy and Space Society (TASS) aims to introduce the subject of astronomy to a wider audience and to facilitate the development of this interest amongst our members.

http://www1.universia.net/CatalogaXXI/C10057PPESII1/E173285/index.html

Wessex Astronomical Society

http://www1.universia.net/CatalogaXXI/C10057PPESII1/E173277/index.html
