 «The United Nations Information Technology Service (UNITeS) is a global volunteer initiative, led by the UN Volunteers programme that allows volunteers from any country to give their skills and time to extend the opportunities of the digital revolution to developing countries. It was announced by the United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan, in his Millennium Report "We the Peoples: the Role of the United Nations in the Twenty-First Century" (April 2000).»

 Voluntarios de las Naciones Unidas para zanjar la brecha digital
 
 «El Servicio de Tecnologías de la Información de Naciones Unidas (UNITeS) es una nueva iniciativa mundial de voluntariado que permite a voluntarios de cualquier nacionalidad ofrecer sus conocimientos y tiempo para hacer llegar las oportunidades de la revolución digital a los países en desarrollo. Este servicio fue anunciado por el Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, Kofi Annan, en su Informe del Milenio "Nosotros los pueblos: la función de las Naciones Unidas en el siglo XXI" (Abril 2000). El Programa VNU facilita y coordina el programa UNITeS.
Los Voluntarios UNITeS trabajan directamente con personas e instituciones (en países en desarrollo) para fomentar sus conocimientos sobre las aplicaciones de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC) para el desarrollo humano.»
