Faculdade de Letras «My primary aim is to do research in the Philosophy of Language, particularly on the semantics of singular terms ? proper names, singular indexical terms and singular definite descriptions -- and of sentences containing them. My aim is to develop an account on which it turns out possible to see the semantics for those linguistic items as conceived independently of pragmatic issues. Some uses of proper names, of (singular) indexical terms and of definite descriptions do indeed pose problems that apparently question the traditional borderline between Semantics and Pragmatics. I want to address the problem of how far can we push the line that separates the two territories, in such a way that all (or most of) pragmatics is not included in semantics (in which case the distinction would vanish).»
