La SEF es una asociación de profesionales que trabajan en el campo de la Patología Vegetal. Los fines de esta asociación son: Fomentar, facilitar, aunar y difundir trabajos en los diferentes aspectos de la Fitopatología Promover acciones que potencien la investigación y mejoren la docencia en el campo de la Patología Vegetal en España. Favorecer el contacto entre los fitopatólogos españoles, así como entre éstos y expertos de otros ámbitos relacionados. Establecer relaciones con sociedades afines españolas y extranjeras.

It was also in 1996 that the Council of Europe, at the request of its rapporteur and after approval of the Council's President and its Secretary General, decided to open for signature in Oviedo (Asturias) its Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with Regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine, also known as the Bioethics Convention of Asturias - which finally took place on 4 April 1997.»
