Enlace: http://www.telp.com/ Descripción: «The Aril Society International is a group of dedicated iris enthusiasts devoted to promoting the aril and arilbred irises. Aril irises are native to the Middle East and grow in Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, and some southern republics of the former Soviet Union. Aril irises get their name from the creamy white collar (or "aril") on their seeds. Botanically, they are members of the Oncocyclus and Regelia subsections of the genus Iris. They are regarded by many as the most exotic and beautiful irises in the world. Unfortunately, they can be difficult to grow outside their native climate.» Arilbred irises are the result of breeding aril irises with the more commonly grown bearded irises. This breeding has involved mostly tall bearded irises, but dwarf and median irises have been used as well. The arilbreds are as diverse in color and form and as they are in genetic makeup. The combinations of color, size, and form make this an exciting and challenging group of irises. Unlike their aril ancestors, arilbreds can be grown successfully in a wide range of climates. They give gardeners the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of aril-type flowers without having to provide the special environment the pure arils require.» |
