Mary Ellen Mark

1999.
The Digital Journalist.
«Mary Ellen Mark has been working for over 30 years pursuing her passion for photography. While some photographers lose their edge as years go by, in Mark’s case there has been no slackening either in the imagery or in the pursuit of the subjects with which she becomes obsessed. She is rightfully convinced that she has something to say, to show in photography. Most people coming into contact with the power of her work agree.»

Masterworks of Photography

American Photography Museum.
«What makes a photographic masterpiece? It might be a perfectly balanced still-life, bathed in natural light. It might be a stirring portrait or a captured moment of history or a sublime landscape. Great photographs can intrigue us, astound us, mystify us, move us.
The photographs in this exhibition--all drawn from a private collection--share a special, intangible quality that sets them apart from the billions of other camera images taken over the last 163 years.»

Centro Virtual Cervantes.

Museum of the Rockies

Montana State University.
«The Museum of the Rockies is located at the geographic center of the Northern Rocky Mountain region, a vast, sparsely populated land which includes Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and portions of Alberta, Saskatchewan and the Dakotas. Despite its relative isolation, the Northern Rockies encompasses a significant evidentiary record of cultural and natural history, unique to North America. Wrenching geologic processes including the creation and subsequent draining of inland oceans, mountain building and glaciation have shaped the region's history and influenced later development. This intensely beautiful place has served as a migratory corridor and as a crossroads for the growth of life on the North American continent.»

From the battlefronts of Latin America, to the barrios of Los Angeles, she has been telling the stories of ordinary people caught up in the events of a changing world.»
