	Première guerre mondiale (1915-1919)

Collection photos. «La collection sur la première guerre mondiale regroupe l'ensemble des clichés pris par les photographes de la Section Photographique des Armées (SPA), de 1915, date de sa création, à 1919, date de sa suppression. Le Grand Quartier Général en avait fixé les objectifs dès mai 1915 : " prendre tous clichés intéressants: au point de vue historique (destructions, ruines...), au point de vue de la propagande par l'image à l'étranger, au point de vue des opérations militaires, par la constitution d'archives documentaires. The only Westerners allowed to stay in Japan and engage in trade were the Dutch. They had to submit to very strict regulations, however, and were only allowed to live on Deshima, a small artificial island in Nagasaki harbor. This is a digital exhibition of a collection of 40 Japanese woodblock prints published between 1800 and 1865, depicting Dutch traders in Nagasaki. Now extremely rare, at the time of their publication the prints were sold as souvenirs to Japanese who visited Nagasaki and perhaps hoped to catch a glimpse of these strange 'red-haired barbarians'.» Holanda

	Robert Hunt: Australian Pioneer Photographer (1830-1892)

Macleay Museum. «In 1854 Robert Hunt arrived in Sydney to take up the position of first clerk at the Sydney branch of the Royal Mint where he worked, apart from a seven years at the Melbourne Mint, until his death in 1892. Hunt, like many other gentlemen amateurs of the mid Victorian period, was keenly interested in the new sciences, particularly botany, geology, and meteorology as well as the arts. (...) As early as 1855 Hunt began to photograph Sydney Town and over the next thirty years his passion for this new technology allowed him to build up a unique early record of the Sydney's development.» Australia

	Roedde House: Window to the Past

Mr. Roedde arrived in Vancouver in 1886, the same year the Canadian Pacific Railway steamed into town. Mr. Roedde was Vancouver's first bookbinder. 	Royal British Columbia Museum
		«The Royal BC Museum rewards visitors with a magical journey through BC's history. Two intriguing floors of exhibits bring the past to life. Captain Vancouver's ship, a partial re-creation of the HMS Discovery, sits at its dock in an area devoted to early explorers and the fur trade. The European influx eventually brought mining, logging, fishing, and agriculture on a commercial scale, all represented in displays in the modern history gallery. A turn-of-the-20th century town features a theatre with silent movies, a steam train pulling into the station, a Chinatown alley with resident cat, and the aroma of apple pie wafting from a kitchen. The century lives on in displays by the decade, with Pokemon and skateboards included as a few of the cultural icons of the 1990s. In the natural history gallery, the coastal rain forest is carpeted with real salal undergrowth. Ocean animals enjoy their tidal pool at the seashore. Realistic dioramas provide backdrops for a homestead scene from the Peace River region and for the birds of the Fraser River Delta. This outpost was the first attempt by the French at year-round colonization in the territory they called "La Cadie" or "l'Acadie".
