Descripción: «The Chemical Speciation & Bioavailability Group (CS&BG) (leadered by Prof. Maria Teresa Vasconcelos) is a part of LAQUIPAI. a Research Centre placed in the Oporto's Faculty of Sciences, Campus III of the University of Oporto. The responsible for the LAQUIPAI is Professor Adélio A.A.S.C. Machado.
The knowledge of the total concentration of an element in a medium, per se, doesn't allow to predict its impact in the biosphere. Hence, it's also essential to distinguish and quantify the different species of the element in the sample, that is, to speciate the element.
The Chemical Speciation & Bioavailability Group devotes to the study of chemical speciation in environmental systems.
Speciation has the purpose to provide additional information to the comprehension of the reciprocal interactions between living organisms and the surrounding chemical environment, falling, though, in the BioGeoChemistry domain.
CS&BG has well equipped Labs, with diversified, very sensitive and selective instrumentation for separation and detection of chemical species at trace and ultra-trace levels.»
