		«La UNESCO se propone promover la identificación, protección y preservación del patrimonio cultural y natural de todo el mundo considerado especialmente valioso para la humanidad. Este objetivo está incorporado en un tratado internacional denominado Convención sobre la protección del patrimonio mundial, cultural y natural, aprobado por la UNESCO en 1972. Uno de los principales objetivos será la preparación para el año 2004, del informe regional sobre el Estado del Patrimonio Mundial en América Latina y el Caribe, según los informes periódicos recibidos de los Estados Partes y evaluados por un prestigioso grupo de expertos regionales durante el bienio 2002-2003.
