Descripción: «The direct aim of the HEREIN project was to convert the Council of Europe`s paper databank on the architectural and archaeological heritage into a system with fast and easy access via the Internet. The HEREIN project also aimed at facilitating access to the cultural heritage in putting at the disposal of public administrations, professionals and enterprises a permanent and interactive information system on cultural heritage. The first phase of the project involved governmental services in charge of Cultural Heritage from France, Hungary, Ireland, Norway, Spain and The United Kingdom, and brought together a group of 17 bodies from the public and private sectors.
The www.european-heritage.net was opened in 1999. It is basically concerned with national heritage policies, to meet a desire, which authorities have often expressed for more information about other countries` practices. In addition to the concise data, the site is also a portal to computerised databanks and Internet sites selected by the governmental services in charge of Cultural Heritage. An international working team under British lead developed a multilingual thesaurus in English, French and Spanish to index the databank and clarify the concepts.»
