It is representative of the largest forest in the world and is made up of vast protected areas as well as smaller units that are important as ecological corridors for maintaining the genetic flow of species between these different units. One of the main functions of the Biosphere Reserve will be the integration of these areas under different administrative institutions, allowing co-operation to meet common conservation objectives.»

A Reserva tem por elemento estrutural de seus territórios o conjunto de Áreas Protegidas contínuas, formado pelo Parque Nacional do Jaú, pela Estação Ecológica de Anavilhanas, pelas Reservas Ecológicas do Rio Negro, Javari-Solimões e de Juami-Japurá, pela Reserva Biológica de Uatumã, pela Floresta Nacional de Tefé e pelas Reservas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável de Mamirauá e Amanã, entre outras de menor extensão territorial.»
